Blog 2: Anne Glynn

Both the task and product are highly engaging resources for the classroom. Firstly, the task caters for all types of learners; filmmaking is an increasingly popular hobby for today’s youth and encourages a collaborated learning environment, which is reflected in student’s real world especially with the popularity of today’s online collaborative activities. In addition, I felt engaged in this activity as I saw it as fun, not necessarily learning. Therefore, I am convinced that many of my students will be easily engaged in this task. The product is engaging for several reasons, it is multimodal, entertaining content and covers real world issues.

The product conveys outcomes and content through a narrative, which is shown to be a highly effective teaching strategy for all students, although particularly engaging for Aboriginal students (Donovan, 2009). In addition, the task and product display a high level of connectedness. Throughout the task students are asked to put themselves in real-life situations, working as a team, compromising, using interactive communication technologies  (ICT) to produce a useful product. Furthermore, the product itself reflects real life issues within its content.
